Topic overview

IELTS Academic Writing is assessed on task response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy. For Task 1, select and summarise the main features; for Task 2, establish and develop a sustainable argument.

Key concepts

Task 1 must have an overview and must not explain the reasons for the chart; Task 2 must address every part of the question and maintain a clear position. Complex vocabulary cannot compensate for going off topic.
